Maternity sessions always hold a special kind of magic, but this one felt extra meaningful. Photographing my stepbrother Zeke and his wife Raegan as they prepared to welcome their baby girl was a moment I’ll always hold close. We met in Puako late afternoon— that dreamy time of day when the light softens, the ocean cools, and everything glows in warm, golden tones. The evening air was calm, the sky gently shifting colors, and the quiet stretch of beach gave us the perfect backdrop to celebrate this new chapter in their lives. Before the session, I brought a rose lei for Raegan and a ti-leaf lei for Zeke — small touches that felt rooted in Hawai‘i and symbolic of the blessing surrounding this new beginning. Watching them wear those leis as they held each other made the photos feel even more personal and connected to our island home.
